Utility & Line Locator
Full Time
Island Underground Surveys Inc. is a Nanaimo-based company specializing in locating and mapping underground utilities using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic technology. Serving the Nanaimo and Mid-Vancouver Island region.
We currently have an opening for a Utility Locator / Line Locator position. This role is suited for someone with 1-4 years of work.
What We Offer:
- Hourly wage ($24–$28/hr+ depending on experience & work-ethic)
- 40–60 hour work weeks (8–10 hour days + overtime)
- Full benefits package

- In-house training, mentorship, and supervision
What We’re Looking For:
- 1–4 years of experience as a Utility / Line Locator experience working in civil construction a bonus
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in utility locating preferred.
- Experience with line locating equipment such as electromagnetic locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
Assets (not mandatory):
- Knowledge of local utility systems and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping software.
- Certification from recognized organizations (e.g., ASTTBC) and or Registered Utility Locator Technician training.

Finishing Carpenter

We are currently seeking a Finishing Carpenter to join our crew. The ideal candidate is hardworking, physically fit, eager to learn, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and self-motivation. If you have 3+ years of Cabinet Installation experience, a results-focused mindset, and driven by quality workmanship, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:
- Installation: Securely install cabinets, shelves, and other fixtures according to plans and specifications.
- Precision: Measure, mark, cut, and shape materials to ensure a precise fit and alignment.
- Tools and equipment: Safely operate various hand and power tools, such as saws, jointers, and drills.
- Blueprint and plan interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand the installation layout and requirements.
- Quality control: Ensure all cabinets are installed level, securely attached, and that hardware is functioning correctly.
- Coordination: Communicate with Lead Carpenter to ensure timely project completion.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and address any issues or unexpected problems that arise during installation.
- Finishing: Install hardware
Job Requirements:
- Valid Drivers License
- 3 + years cabinet installation experience
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude & the ability to work as part of a team or alone
- Willingness to work long hours in a fast paced environment
- CNC Experience considered an asset
